Functional Fitness

FitCon-NC is Eastern NC’s first large format, ‘stadium type’ Functional Fitness Event!

 

The event begins on Friday Night with an All Levels, 2 Person Team Competition!

This ‘All-Levels Team’ competition is designed for novice and intermediate Functional Fitness as Sport competitors.

  • A great first competition for developing athletes looking to test the waters, recreational CrossFitters who want to do an exciting event ‘under the lights’, or anyone looking to try something new and different!
  • The competition will last for 4 hours, include 3 scored events, and medals for all competitors – trophies for the top 3 teams in each division.
  • Challenges and Movement Standards – ‘What to Expect’
    • Burpees Over the Bar, Box Jumps (or Step Ups) 24/20″, Run (distances under 200m), Wall Ball, Air Squats, Barbell Press/Thruster 45/35, Row, Russian KB Swing 24/16k, Moving Odd objects over unknown distance (45/25 lb), Deadlift 115/75, Ground to Overhead 75/55, Static Straight Arm Bar Hangs (partner assisted to mount the bar), Static Plank Holds, Medball Sit Ups, Ring Rows/static holds.
    • These team events will be dynamic, fun, and focused on overall effort and teamwork!  They do no focus on heavy weight, difficult or complex gymnastics, or highly technical weightlifting – instead they focus on the team participants ability to do the common, foundational movements uncommonly well and efficiently!
  • Divisions – M/F, M/M, and F/F – 2 person teams.
  • Friday, October 2nd – 5:30pm – 9;30pm.
  • Registration/Packet Pick up: 12noon – 5:00pm Friday, Oct. 2nd.
  • Includes Free Spectator Entry for Saturday’s Expo and Events, Event Medal and an Epic Event Experience!

What are the divisions, and what should competitors expect?

OPEN Teams (M/M and F/F)- Open Division competitors represent intermediate level, developing, and partially RX’d competitors.  Both team members need not be fully RX’d, but they should compliment each other well.  As a rule of thumb, Open competitors should RX about half of the workouts they do at their ‘box’, gym, or garage.

  • At least one team member should be able to perform consistent Pull-Ups, Toes 2 Bar, and Ring Dips.
  • At least one team member should be able to perform Double Unders.
  • At least one team member should be able to consistently perform weightlifting movements at traditional WoD weights (135/95 for clean/jerk/Front Squat, 95/65 Snatch/OHS).
  • Both team members should be able to perform RX Wall Ball, burpees, box jumps (24/20), lunges, and KB Swings 24/16k.
  • There will be NO high/elite level gymnastics for the Open Division teams – No Muscle Ups, Bar Muscle Ups, or Handstand Push Ups.
  • Registration/Packet Pick Up: Friday, Oct 2nd 12 noon – 9:30pm.

RX Teams (M/M and F/F) – RX Division competitors represent ‘fully (or nearly fully) RX’d’ athletes.  Both competitors should RX 90% or more of the workouts at their ‘box’, gym or garage.  Both team members need not have high level gymnastics at the elite level, but at least one partner should have Muscle Ups, C2B Pull Ups and HSPU consistently.  Team members should compliment one another well.

  • At least one team member should have consistent high level gymnastics. (MU, C2B PU, HSPU)  It is recommended that both team members have consistent volume of Double Unders.
  • Both team members should be able to consistently perform a reasonable volume of Pull Ups, T2B, and Ring Dips.
  • Both team members should be able to consistently perform barbell movements at RX Workout weights (135/95 clean/jerk/FSQ and 95/65 Snatch/OHS). One team member should be able to consistently perform heavier barbell movements (185/115 and 135/85 as above).
  • Both team members should be able to perform RX Wall Ball, burpees, box jumps 24/20, lunges and KB Swings 24/16.
  • Registration/Packet Pick Up: Friday, Oct 2nd 12 noon – 9:30pm.
  • Divisions: M/M, F/F

Elite Competitors– Elite Division competitors RX everything.  As individuals, these competitors should be able to move weight, perform gymnastics, and have a skills base that represents the top 500 CrossFit Open Qualifiers in each Region. Elite athletes will compete as Individuals.  If you’re there – you know who you are. Come out and get some!
